A letter to my teenage self....

Dear teenage Kristi,

You remember when you thought you'd finally get to your thirties everything would be perfect....you'd be a REAL adult...and you'd never make it to forty because that was SO OLD! Well... jokes on you girly!! You were wrong.
Things don't quite work out the way you imagined in your teenage day-dreams... but in some cases.. they ended up better than you ever could have dreamed.
First of all....you were totally right about hating high school drama....you never saw 98% of those people again.. so don't ever worry about what anyone thinks or making lasting relationships.... it's a waste of time...be yourself...and seriously try harder in your math class...you're being a freaking slacker.

You wonder if you'll ever get married...have kids...live happily ever after? Well...the answer is yes.. yes... and YES! The difference is that your perception of happily ever after changes. Happily ever after ends up meaning that YOU are happy with YOU...and you find your true worth and purpose. You are such a giver...and even though in some cases its your total downfall... don't ever stop giving with your whole heart. It may cause problems for you... but it is absolutely who you are to your core. This is the way you refill your own "love bucket"....Never Stop.

And yikes little lady do you have a super stubborn streak...hang on to that one tho...it comes in handy. Turns out you CAN do it by yourself!!

You get to be a MOM!  You have 2 of the cutest babies you have ever seen. They will show you a love like you have never known. They will teach you more then you will ever teach them. As a bonus they turn out to be some dang good people too. Hints: Treavor has the stinkiest feet you have ever smelled and his room smells like a gerbil...might wanna take some precautions there. And Tai never lets you live down the time you left her at Walmart when she was throwing a fit...it worked tho..she never threw a fit in the store again...so be sure to do that one early.

Don't change a thing with your sisters...not even jumping off the deck on to the trampoline with Keri (she's fine.. she didn't die)... or stealing our cousins truck and sluffing school with Kim (sorry not sorry?).... or purposefully doing truck back-fire bombs with Amie (my apologies to all those people at the fruit stands during my teenage years)...or torturing Annie for paybacks with the remote control that would "give her diarrhea" ....(yes she still deserves it)... Your sisters end up being your very best friends.... They will be by your side every step of the way.

My best advice for you...is BE YOURSELF ALWAYS...you're a smart cookie and you know right from wrong. Always see the good around you.. be thankful.. be grateful.. always
forgive first... people will come and go.. serve others and you will never be alone. Trust your heart. But most importantly... keep a close relationship with God and your family. Neither one ever lets you down.

Here's a small list of things I WOULD suggest you change.....
  • Tell Mom and Dad thanks more
  • Stop sluffing Young Womens in the church bathroom
  • Spend more time with Melissa
  • Go to more concerts..(you get to meet Gene Simmons and he is scary)
  • Sleep in more and enjoy not having bills
  • Don't teach yourself how to start the truck with a paperclip
  • Buy stock in Apple
  • Don't throw that tuna sandwich at Mom
But let everything else happen like it does.... you'll be ok.

I'm proud of you...
Love, mid-life Kristi
